HOW TO INSTALL TILE FLOORING
 |
Tile flooring can be installed by following these basic steps. It is wisest to place tile flooring over a cement floor, and not over a linoleum or former tile surface. One needs to put tile flooring on a clean surface. The concrete floor should then be cleaned with pure water and a mop. If the concrete is very smooth, it is not ready to handle the tile flooring. Keep in mind that the floor will be 1/2" higher after the installation. You may need to adjust the toilet, vanity, and other fixtures to compensate. |

- Find the center point of the room by measuring across the room in both directions and mark the center with a chalk line.
- Lay out the tiles in a dry run, starting at the center and following both chalk lines.
- Place the center tile, using the type of adhesive recommended by the manufacturer.
- Use a notched trowel to apply the adhesive to the floor.
- Press the tile in place while twisting it back and forth to secure it into position.
- Use the center tile as a reference point, and install the remaining tiles along straight lines.
- Install only a few tiles at a time, and don't use too much adhesive.
